Interview:

1:  How did you feel when your very first novel got published?

It was a feeling of accomplishment. I always wanted to write something contemporary with a mix of emotions and realism. Putting it all together took a lot of effort and time. There are moments when you get demoralized when the story doesn’t proceed despite a lot of thought into it and those were the moments which gave me strength to see what lay at the end of the tunnel. All the effort was truly worth it in the end.

2: Which character of a story did you like the most? And why?

I created some characters for their unique strengths, but if I had to choose one of them, it would be Saima. She displayed all the characters a woman should. Be it being confident, crazy, emotional, sensitive and even a tigress given the circumstances. It took some effort to bring out the strong side of her but I enjoyed it the most.

3.   What inspired you to write this book?

There was no specific inspiration. My penchant for economics led me to portray the economic aspects in the form of story. Weaving these aspects with a storyline interesting and gripping for readers was enthralling for me. The real heroes of the country are common people like you and I who often get lost amidst many establishments, in nutshell the economy, that are built and run on the day and night efforts of these common people. It is not often when common people take things in their hands but when they do, no one can withstand their force and grit. That was the basic premise of the book. And, at the end of the day, I wanted to write something thrilling. Maybe a thing or two which people can learn from.

4.   A Message for all Aspiring writers.

Write whatever you believe in. You can always mix your thoughts with a good storyline which readers can enjoy. The beauty about writing is that it allows you to express your true self and beliefs without any hindrances. Don’t hold yourself back. Flow into your writing and believe in yourself, you will have a book finally worth all the efforts you put in. Take a short vacation if you are feeling down. I got many ideas from many short trips I have taken in my life.

5: What do you think makes a good story?

At the end of the day a reader should get the message and learn a few new things. All readers typically are limited to their careers and lives and they won’t experience many aspects in life be it on personal front or professional. If as a reader I can learn about something new that refreshes me or makes me laugh or makes me learn or point out a different viewpoint the book has served its purpose.

6: What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

It’s not common for us to have a set of beliefs and stick to them while writing a book because at the end of the day, that’s the message that we are trying to put across. But, what I learned during my writing is that I could challenge my own beliefs. Writing changes you a bit and your belief system by the time you finish your books. I asked myself many questions while crafting the plot or characters or their actions and then there were times I was quite pensive about what I had portrayed. There were changes to my own thought process. It is a very enriching experience.

7: What has been one of your most rewarding experiences as an author?
I have become quite empathetic towards everyone. Be it my friends or family or colleagues. I saw the massive support that my husband, my brother and my parents provided to me while I was writing the book. They believed firmly in me and were my strength all through out. I had my tough days and I saw how they understood me. The whole experience has made me more humble and accommodating and I can empathize with people better.

8: Do you set a plot or prefer going wherever an idea takes you

It’s a mix of both. You generally start with an idea and it does shape up over time. I doubt if any author deviates materially from the basic premise. But, at times you do take detours to make it interesting for the readers.

9: Do you recall the first ever book/novel you read?

Oh! as a child, the Noddy series by Enid Blyton used to be the favourite. Those were the days.

10: If you were to change your genre, which one would you choose?

I would like to write some light read now. It was a herculean task to write a thriller as the first book.

11: What does literary success look like to you?
Appreciation from readers is success to me. Although, you want your book to be a best seller it is a massive task for people engrossed in their daily jobs to broadcast their message to a very large audience. Keeping that limitation aside, I believe if people appreciate your book, that’s more than enough.
12: Can you tell us about your current projects?

I’m working on several thoughts and writing on the same. It’s a daily struggle to prioritize what should get more attention. I am working on life story as well as sequel to my latest book.
